Pixie

Pixies, also called fairies or faeries and various other names, are small and incredibly magical, winged Fay creatures. Their exact nature and magical power remains largely a mystery to Men.

Appearance

Pixies vary wildly in appearance. All resemble elves in appearance and skin tone, but they also have wings of various kinds of insects; one pixie may have wings like a butterfly, while another may have wings like a dragonfly or even a wasp. They are thought of as being very small, only a few inches in height - but some legends speak of pixies changing size, able to become almost as tall as a wood elf. Some pixies may also have antennae, and all have pointed ears. They have been said to have hair of almost every imaginable color, and their eyes are always bright. Also like elves, they are all said to have beautiful features. According to scholars like Grigore Summers, they use their attractiveness to tempt and trick mortals.

Powers

Very little is known about the wide variety of abilities pixies may or may not possess. Some are said to change size. Others are said to wield various forms of magic that may be so far beyond the understanding of mortals that it cannot be described. Pixies are said to flit in and out of the Spirit Realm through almost any small hole, such as holes in a tree. They can glow a bright color, if they so please, using naught but pure magical power. Pixies may be capable of still more power and are said to bewitch and befuddle those who trespass upon their homes, even leading them to their deaths.

Culture

If pixies have a culture of any sort, Men do not know about it. Some scholars say pixies have no culture and barely exist, mere fragments of the Spirit Realm that express themselves as naught but pure mischief. Others say pixies are vicious and hate all mortals, wanting to destroy any they possibly can. Regardless, some people have claimed to see tiny pixie villages in trees in secluded forests and swamps, and pixies are thought to dwell deep in the wilderness of Rognosst Swamp. Otherwise, all that is known is how pixies apparently enjoy mischief, and they are often blamed for small problems such as tangled hair, strange tickling sensations, and foliage that seems to move for no reason - as well as disappearing baubles, jewelry, and other small trinkets from the packs of travelers in the deep wilderness. Some claim that the glow of will-o-wisps in swamps are actually pixies.
