A chimera.

A chimera is an infamous monster, one of the deadliest and most feared of all beasts and the namesake of all chimerans. It is depicted widely across the Achaean Empire as a symbol of ferocity, strength, and primal power, as well as being one of the greatest monsters slain by heroes in the ancient ages.

Appearance

The chimera has the head and forearms of a lion, the back legs and second head of a goat, and a serpent in place of a tail. They are enormous, their coloration said to be motley thanks to their combined nature. With the strength of a lion, keen wits, and even the capability to cast spells, the chimera has many methods of attack. The lion head is capable of breathing fire, the serpent can spit paralytic venom, and the goat supposedly possesses magic. Chimeras are not to be confused with the manticore, a similar but very different creature composed of several different beasts.

Nature

Chimeras are the best-known and among the most feared of all its kind, the so-called "chimerans," beasts composed of many creatures seemingly mutated together. Some say these creatures were the result of magical experimentation or other magic out of control, such as the Mage Wars of Sinkarya. Others say the chimera and its kind are the offspring of Typhon, Lord of Monsters. No one knows the truth.
